The Challenge

Today’s dominant economic model follows a linear “take-make-waste” system in which natural resources are extracted, products are manufactured and consumed, and valuable materials are ultimately disposed of in landfills and the environment. This model drives inefficiencies across supply chains and leads to the loss of critical resources. Globally, 2 billion tons of resources are discarded each year, including $6.5 billion worth of reusable materials annually in the United States alone.

At the same time, global consumption is exceeding the planet’s regenerative capacity: humanity uses 60% more resources than the Earth can regenerate each year, and at current rates we would require three Earths by 2050. Transitioning to a circular economy—where products and materials are reused, recycled, and kept in circulation— offers a pathway to reduce waste, strengthen supply chains, and recover economic value.

Closed Loop Partners' Strategy

Closed Loop Partners works to accelerate the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy in which products and materials remain in circulation through reuse, recycling, and regeneration. Its platform combines investment, innovation, and operations to scale circular solutions across industries and supply chains, and consists of three distinct businesses:

  1. Closed Loop Capital Management deploys venture capital, private equity, catalytic capital, and private credit to scale circular technologies and infrastructure.
  2. The Closed Loop Center for the Circular Economy works with major corporations and industry partners to test and develop solutions to pressing material challenges.
  3. Closed Loop Builders develops and operates recycling and circular infrastructure that keeps valuable materials in supply chains and out of landfills. Circular Services is the first company launched by Closed Loop Builders and is one of the largest private recycling and circular economy service providers in the U.S.

Together, these efforts help accelerate the transition to a more resilient circular economy.

Long-term Intended Outcome

Closed Loop Partners envisions a waste-free world in which economic growth is decoupled from environmental degradation. Through investments, innovation, and circular infrastructure, the firm works to keep materials in circulation and reduce emissions linked to resource extraction and landfill disposal, while demonstrating the economic viability of circular business models and catalyzing broader investment in the circular economy.

Tracking Progress

As of year-end 2024, Closed Loop Partners reported 15.9 billion pounds of materials kept in circulation, 25.2 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions avoided, and over 90 circular economy businesses backed, supported by more than $575 million in assets under management.
